New Work/ Colorado

It’s been a long, slow year so far, and there’re still 4-1/2 months left of 2020! So back in mid-July, my family and I decided we needed to get away for a few days. After exhausting all the possibilities of places nearby, we opted to drive to Colorado and spend a week in an AirBnB condo near Steamboat Springs. We spent every day in the great outdoors, hiking, walking and scrambling up and down trails… far from other people and very socially distanced.

Our favorite hike was the “Zirkel Circle” aka the Zirkel Wilderness Hike, a full day out loop trail past Gold Creek Lake and Lake Gilpin, with about a half mile of elevation gain over the course of twelve miles. This was one of my favorite images from the day– a small stream where we peeled off our dusty boots and dipped our tired feet in a frigid mountain stream.

I don’t often get good images on family trips; I don’t have the time to slow down and really make art, but on this occasion, I loved the ripples and rocks in the stream creating a very abstract image. I stood in the water for about three minutes before I had to get my numb feet out of there. But I think the results were worth the effort.
